What to Expect From Your Full Body MRI Scan
Simple Booking
Scheduling your full body MRI is easy. Use our online booking system or give our team a call to choose a convenient date and time for your scan.
Preparation
You will be asked to remove any metallic objects, such as jewelry, watches, or hairpins, as these can interfere with the magnetic field. You might also be asked to change into a hospital gown to avoid any clothing containing metal.
Comfortable Procedure
Our private full body preventative MRI scans are non-invasive and painless. You'll be comfortably positioned on the MRI table, and our friendly staff will guide you through the process.
Scan Duration
The MRI machine consists of a large, cylindrical tunnel. During the scan, you will be moved into the tunnel slowly. The duration can vary from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. It’s important to remain still during the scan to avoid blurring the images.
Comprehensive Results
After your scan, our medical team will analyze the images and provide you with a detailed report. If any abnormalities are found, we'll take the time to explain the results and answer any questions you may have.

Common Questions & Answers Around Our Whole Body Preventative MRI
If something concerning is found in my MRI scan, what happens next?
If our radiologists find something concerning in your MRI scan, we’ll contact you right away. You’ll receive a detailed report explaining what was found, with images showing the area of concern. Our medical team will help explain the findings in simple terms and recommend next steps. These might include seeing a specialist, getting more focused tests, or discussing the results with your regular doctor. We don’t just identify potential issues – we help guide you through the follow-up process. Many findings require simple monitoring rather than immediate treatment. Remember, early detection often means more treatment options and better outcomes.
Can a full body MRI scan actually save me money in the long run?
Yes, a full body MRI scan can save you money over time. Finding health problems early typically means simpler, less expensive treatments. For example, catching a small tumor early might mean a simple procedure instead of costly chemotherapy or radiation. Consider these facts:
- Late-stage cancer treatment can cost $100,000+ while early treatment often costs far less
- Hospital stays for advanced conditions can run $10,000+ per day
- Lost income from extended illness can exceed medical costs
Beyond direct medical savings, there’s the value of avoiding serious illness and staying productive. One scan can replace multiple specialist visits and individual tests, saving both time and money. Many of our clients view their MRI scan as a health investment rather than an expense.
How often should I get a full body MRI scan to track my health effectively?
Most healthy adults benefit from a full body MRI scan every 1-2 years. This timeline allows for effective tracking of changes while being practical and cost-effective. However, the ideal frequency depends on your personal health factors:
- Age: People over 50 may benefit from yearly scans as health risks increase with age
- Family history: Those with family histories of cancer, heart disease, or neurological conditions might need more frequent scans
- Personal health history: Previous health issues might suggest more regular monitoring
- Risk factors: Smoking, high blood pressure, or diabetes might indicate a need for yearly scans
Your initial scan serves as your health baseline. After reviewing your results, our medical team can recommend the right schedule for your specific situation. Some clients with higher risk factors schedule annual scans, while those with lower risk may scan every two years.
What have previous clients discovered through their scans that they wouldn't have known otherwise?
Our clients have discovered many hidden health issues through full body MRI scans that showed no symptoms. Common findings include:
- Early-stage tumors in the kidneys, liver, and pancreas, often when still highly treatable
- Brain aneurysms that were repaired before they could rupture
- Spinal disc issues that explained minor back pain but could have led to serious problems
- Early signs of heart disease, allowing for lifestyle changes before a heart attack
- Lung nodules in former smokers that led to early cancer detection
- Liver abnormalities in people with no symptoms or abnormal blood tests
- Bone marrow issues that revealed underlying blood disorders
One client discovered a golf ball-sized tumor on their kidney that blood tests hadn’t detected. Another found an aortic aneurysm that their doctor said would have been life-threatening if left undetected. These findings often occur in people who feel completely healthy and would have remained hidden until symptoms appeared—often too late for the best treatment options.
Is an MRI better than a CT scan for preventative screening?
MRI scans offer several advantages over CT scans for preventative screening. They use no radiation (only magnetic fields and radio waves), provide better detail of soft tissues like organs and muscles, can detect subtle changes that CT scans might miss, and excel at imaging the brain, spine, and joints. While CT scans are better for lung imaging, faster, and typically less expensive, MRI is generally the preferred choice for whole-body preventative screening because it provides a more detailed look at all body systems without radiation exposure. Our radiologists can recommend additional CT imaging for specific areas if needed based on your MRI results.
Can a full body MRI scan detect the beginning stages of conditions like cancer or heart disease?
Full body MRI scans can detect many early-stage conditions before symptoms appear, including cancer and heart disease. For cancer, MRI can identify small tumors in the brain, liver, kidneys, and pancreas when they’re most treatable. For heart disease, MRI shows early plaque buildup, heart muscle changes, valve problems, and signs of previous mini heart attacks you might not have noticed. The scan can also detect early signs of liver and kidney dysfunction, neurological conditions, bone and joint problems, and inflammatory diseases. While not perfect, MRI provides one of the most comprehensive views of internal body structures, making it excellent for early detection, which often leads to simpler treatment and better outcomes.
What does a full body scan show?
A full body MRI scan shows detailed images of your entire body’s internal structures, organs, and tissues. The scan creates pictures of:
- Brain and nervous system: Brain tissue, spinal cord, and nerve pathways
- Chest and heart: Heart chambers, valves, blood vessels, lungs, and chest structures
- Abdomen and pelvis: Liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, reproductive organs, and intestines
- Bones and joints: Spine, major joints, and bone marrow
- Blood vessels: Major arteries and veins throughout the body
Our whole body MRI can detect abnormalities like tumors, cysts, inflammation, structural problems, and signs of disease. It shows soft tissues clearly without using radiation. The scan can identify many health issues before symptoms appear, including cancers, aneurysms, heart disease, liver problems, and neurological conditions. This comprehensive view allows for early detection when conditions are most treatable and provides a baseline for future health comparisons.
How much is a full body MRI?
A full body MRI at Craft Body Scan costs between $2,999, and we have additional scans as well that vary in cost depending on the specific scan packages and additional services you choose. This one-time fee includes:
- Complete scanning of all major body systems
- Expert analysis by board-certified radiologists
- Detailed health report with images and findings
- Consultation to review and explain your results and more
While insurance typically doesn’t cover preventative full body scans, many clients use HSA/FSA accounts to help with payment. We also offer payment plans to make this investment in your health more accessible.
When considering a full body scan cost, many clients compare it to the expense of multiple individual scans and specialist visits, which would cost significantly more if ordered separately. The comprehensive nature of our whole body MRI scan provides exceptional value by examining multiple body systems in a single session. The potential savings from early detection of health issues often far exceeds the initial cost of the scan.
How long does a full body MRI take?
A full body MRI scan at Craft Body Scan typically takes 45-90 minutes for the actual scanning time. The entire appointment usually lasts about 2 hours from arrival to departure. Here’s what to expect:
- Check-in and preparation: 15-20 minutes
- MRI scanning time: 45-90 minutes
- Brief recovery and initial feedback: 10-15 minutes
During the scan, you’ll lie comfortably on a padded table that moves into the MRI machine. The machine takes detailed images of different body areas, working from head to toe. You’ll be able to communicate with the technologist throughout the procedure.
The exact scanning time depends on the specific areas being examined and whether contrast agents are used for certain parts of the scan. Our advanced MRI technology helps keep scan times as short as possible while still capturing high-quality images.
